R. Thomas Torgerson is a trial lawyer and maintains an active practice as a labor and employment law attorney. As a litigator, he defends individuals and companies against a variety of claims, both insured and uninsured, in the principal areas of commercial transactions, construction, insurance, employment, personal injury and professional malpractice. In his labor and employment practice, he represents private and public employers in all aspects of the collective bargaining process including contract negotiations and the handling of grievance and interest arbitrations. He counsels companies on employment law compliance and defends them against claims asserted in state and federal agency proceedings and in court. Additionally, he represents shareholders in closely held company shareholder disputes.
While in law school, he participated in the Wisconsin Supreme Court Judicial Internship Program. He is admitted to practice in the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, in the United States Districts Courts for the District of Minnesota, the Western District of Wisconsin and the Western District of Michigan, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
