Our municipal law team represents a wide variety of municipal and quasi-municipal clients across Minnesota and into Wisconsin—defending against lawsuits and performing as special counsel for particular projects and as general counsel for their ongoing legal needs. As general counsel, we advise entities, such as towns, sanitary districts, charter schools, transit authorities and electrical cooperatives about their powers and duties, including matters such as:
- Financing, conflicts of interest
- Joint powers agreements
- Planning and zoning
- The Municipal Contracting Act
- The Open Meeting Law
We have defended school districts, towns, cities, sanitary districts and other municipalities throughout the region against claims and lawsuits, often upon assignment by their insurers. Representative clients include the Duluth Transit Authority, Arrowhead Regional Electrical Cooperative, Pike Lake Area Wastewater Collection System, Moose Lake Windemere Sanitary Sewer District and dozens of towns including Aitkinson, Beaver Bay, Duluth, Cedar Valley, Ellsburg, Embarrass, Fairbanks, Halden, Lakewood, Lutsen, Nickerson, Normanna, Tofte and Schroeder.
